Over the last few months, we have invited Accu volunteers to get involved with activity afternoons with our adults, children and young people, letting them get to know the people we care for and our staff, and gain deeper insight into how we do things at Hollybank. It’s been all about meeting our friendly adults, children and young people, as well as our dedicated staff.
This month, after putting some love into our garden by painting fences, two of those wonderful Accu volunteers jumped right into one of our super fun bingo sessions with the ELMS activity centre crew. To celebrate the rich tapestry of our Hollybank family, they decided on a Bollywood theme for the bingo bash of the summer, giving our volunteers the opportunity to learn a little bit about the culture and customs of some of our staff, adults, children and young people.
Members of the Hollybank Team showed off their best Bollywood dance moves borrowing from fabulous styles like Bharatanatyam and Kathak, and our Accu volunteers were up on the dancefloor too! Our Accu volunteers and support workers made everyone feel part of the day with some wheelchair dancing.
One of the volunteers from Accu, who used to work at our homes Rowan Court and Beeches, commented: “I enjoyed the day very much! We had so much fun dancing and talking to everyone including the adults and children from Hollybank. I have memories of caring for people at Rowan Court and Beeches. at Hollybank and I love making them laugh and smile. I also love singing to them! I miss them all!”
At the end of the day, the volunteers, those who live at Hollybank, and staff shared a buffet with plenty of flavoursome classic Indian delicacies and dishes to choose from!
