When the Holmfirth-based community support group, Holme Valley Lions, learned that they were neighbours with adults with profound and complex disabilities living at Rowan Court, they reached out to the Rowan Court team to find out if they could support them through their fundraising initiatives.
The Holme Valley Lions, a group involved in many commendable and compassionate activities to support charities in the local area, put forward the idea of hosting one of their community-based raffles to help raise funds for the Holmfirth home that would enable the home to invest in some new sensory equipment for the adults with complex disabilities living there.
From one Holme to another, the Lions raised over £3,000 from the raffle for Rowan Court, which has helped to revamp the sensory room within the home! Following the raffle, the Holme Valley Lions were given an in-person tour of Rowan Court, including the onsite sensory room, getting to see for themselves how their generous donation was going to play a part in helping the adults with complex needs.
Malcolm Howlett, Holme Valley Lions Secretary, commented: “We were met and shown round by Director of Operations at Hollybank Trust, Sean McKibben, and Deputy Manager at Rowan Court, Anne-Marie Price. Photos of some the activities that take place within the home were displayed on the walls of the home, showing residents so happy and taking part in activities in their home environment. The sensory room was amazing, with different coloured lighting options available to adjust the ambience of the room, and adaptable handsets available for use as part of the equipment that is accessible to all. Well done to Rowan Court and staff for all you do! We were happy to help you enhance your sensory room!”
Hollybank Trust want to thank both the Holme Valley Lions and all of those who donated to the raffle to make this investment possible.
Charitable people in the local community have been kindly buying tickets for the community-based raffle set up by The Holme Valley Lions for over several years, which has helped them to stay connected to the selfless work that charities are doing on an ongoing basis to support others. Prizes for the raffle are often donated by local companies and individuals in the local community, and the Lions have also started selling these raffle tickets online.
