Arriving home to a letterbox full of Christmas cards that have been posted to us is a lovely feeling this time of year. Every Christmas at Hollybank Trust, one of our members of staff brings this same wonderful feeling and spirit of the season to each and every adult, child and young person living at one of our homes.
As the sound of sleigh bells begins to draw close year on year and children at Hollybank and all over the world begin to write their wishlist to Santa, a member of our Finance Team who works at Hollybank Head Office in Mirfield starts to make several lists (and check them twice!) of her own.
These lists include a list of names of each individual resident who lives at Hollybank Trust and a list of what each of his/her/their favourite things are. After collating the lists, this thoughtful member of staff gathers her arts and crafts supplies and begins to brainstorm a design for the card. Each card has created for it its own unique advent-style window which opens to reveal a beautiful image or graphic of each person’s personal favourite things.
Each card, lovingly crafted, reflect each person’s unique identity. Some cards feature cuddly teddy bears, others feature a resident’s favourite band of all time, and others feature their best indulgent meal.
Sealed with heartfelt generosity, the cards are then delivered to people who we support, carrying with them the warm wishes of the season and instilling a sense of belonging in each person who receives a card.
The selfless act of making these gorgeously designed cards remind us all that the spirit of Christmas is not necessarily always found in the flurry to hunt for presents at the nearest shopping centre, it can be found in the simple and low-key act of showing others that they are seen and heard, and loved and appreciated.
