Hollybank’s beehives get a colourful makeover!

custom made beehives

Did you know that Hollybank has its very own drift of honeybees?

Back in 2014, local Beekeeper Richard Terry approached Hollybank with a view to relocating some of his hives to our main site at Roe Head site and six years later, the honeybees are still here.

The beehives on our main site were looking a little plain and so beekeeper Richard Terry decided to launch a small community project to bring some colour to Hollybank.

He asked local families if they’d like to get creative and brighten up some new beehives for our honeybees to move into when the warmer weather arrives – and boy, did they deliver!

The project was completed remotely with Richard dropping off and collecting the beehives. The bees will transfer into their new homes in the spring and are currently waiting patiently in the large field beyond the poplar trees. The colourful beehives will be a great addition to our gardens and will be lovely for our young people, children, and adults to visit when it’s safe to do so.

Richard is also expecting lots of honey from the bees this year as the weather gets warmer, so keep your eyes peeled to get your hands on some!
